Privacy Policy
Built with privacy as a design principle, not an afterthought.
StateQuest is an educational iOS game for children in grades 4–8. We've built it to collect as little information as possible. This policy explains exactly what we collect, what we don't, and why.
What we collect
- First name only. When you set up StateQuest, you may enter a first name to personalize gameplay and display on leaderboards. No last name, email, age, address, photo, or other identifying information is collected.
- Gameplay data. Scores, progress, and achievements are stored locally on your device. If you opt in to the leaderboard, your first name and score are sent to our leaderboard server.
- Classroom codes. If a teacher enrolls a class, students may enter a classroom code to link to a private class leaderboard. The code is generated by the teacher and is not personal information.
What we don't collect
StateQuest does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
How we use information
- To run the game on your device
- To display first names and scores on public or private leaderboards
- To respond to support requests sent to support@statequest.app
We do not sell information. We do not share information with marketers. We do not use information for advertising.
Children's privacy
StateQuest is designed for children in grades 4 through 8. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Apple's App Store guidelines for apps directed at children.
Because StateQuest collects no personal information beyond a first name — and a first name alone does not identify a child — we do not require verifiable parental consent. We do not knowingly collect any information that would allow a child to be personally identified, contacted, or tracked.
If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child has provided information you'd like removed, contact us at support@statequest.app and we will delete it.
Third parties
StateQuest does not use third-party advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or tracking tools. The app uses Apple's standard iOS services (App Store delivery and, if you enable it, iCloud for optional progress backup), which are governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Offline by default
Core gameplay runs entirely on your device. An internet connection is required only to view or submit scores on the leaderboard. If you never enable the leaderboard, no data ever leaves your device.
Data retention and deletion
- On-device data. Deleting the app from your device removes all locally stored information.
- Leaderboard entries. To request deletion of a leaderboard entry, email support@statequest.app with the first name shown and the approximate date of the score.
- Classroom codes. Teachers can delete a class code at any time, which removes all associated leaderboard entries.
Security
We use reasonable technical and administrative measures to protect the limited information we collect. No transmission over the internet is ever 100% secure, but we have designed StateQuest to minimize what is collected in the first place — the strongest protection is data that doesn't exist.
Your rights
You may contact us at support@statequest.app to:
- Ask what information, if any, is stored about you
- Request deletion of any information
- Ask a question about this policy
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app.
